" ... the epitome of motherhood, a dedicated woman who has always
put her children’s welfare
first and foremost."
Hajjin Jennifer Khan met Haji Ralph Khan when she was just twenty one years old. She came from a humble and respectable family background and resided in Williamsville at the time.
One day, while driving casually down Mucurapo Street in San Fernando, Haji Ralph glimpsed her coming from the central market and immediately fell in love with her. He was convinced that she was his soul mate and has always said, “it was love at first sight.”
In his biography, “A Muslim with a Mission: the memoirs of Haji Ralph D. Khan,” it is said that, “Ralph recalls nostalgically that Jenny’s parents at the time viewed his relationship with their daughter with much consternation and foreboding, based on the perceptions of other people and the prevailing view at the time that insurance salesmen were dishonest, evasive and untrustworthy. Winning his in-laws trust and confidence would take some time but Ralph persevered and his vindication unfolded in a rather peculiar manner.”
Their age difference was irrelevant and they got married on 03rd August, 1968 which was also the birth date of Haji Ralph Khan. “Jenny” as she is affectionately called, “has been a bastion of support for Ralph.”
In 1967 she was permanently employed as a Clerk Typist at the Ste. Madeleine Sugar Company. Some time later she became a Departmental Secretary/Stenotypist at Caroni (1975) Limited. She worked there until the company ceased its operations in 2003. They had two lovely children together, Nadeira and Imran, who are both Directors of Ralico.
After retirement, she continued to spend all of her time looking after her family.
“She was the working mother, wife and companion of Ralph, completely dedicated to her family. Described as sweet, devoted and extremely hardworking; the epitome of motherhood, a dedicated woman who has always put her children’s welfare first and foremost.”
Hajjin Jennifer performed the Hajj (Holy Pilgrimage) to Saudi Arabia in January 2006. She spent all her time when she was not at work, taking care of her family and made many sacrifices for them.
Nadeira says, “there’s no better mother in this world. Mummy would prepare breakfast and lunch for us every single day regardless of how she was feeling, send us off to school and then go to work. She never once complained about anything. During her lunch break she would go to the grocery to save time, and return home to prepare dinner and perform her motherly duties without fail. She seemed to live for us since I never saw her do anything that she wanted – just work and look after us. Mum is my lifeline. She has always been calm, sweet, understanding, supportive, shy, kind and affectionate. She is my inspiration and an extremely strong individual.”
Hajjin Jennifer passed away on the 24th January, 2017. She will always be our Angel.
